LA Best Babies Network and the LA County Perinatal and Early Childhood Home Visitation Consortium is partnering with Peace Over Violence for a virtual Domestic Violence Training Series available to all home visiting staff in LA County. The purpose of this training series is to provide home visiting staff with an overview of domestic violence red flags to be aware of as they serve their clients, as well as education of the impact of domestic violence on children, and legal considerations when working with immigrants who may be experiencing domestic violence. Training attendees will also learn about county-wide domestic violence resources. The learning objectives and dates are listed below: October 11: Domestic Violence 101- Participants will: • Recognize the prevalence of domestic violence in the US/ LA County • Identify red flags and signs of abuse in DV/IPV • Identify healthy relationships vs unhealthy relationships • Utilize trauma-informed crisis response to support survivors • Have access to list of referrals for LA County DV Services and other victim services providers October 18: Domestic Violence and Impacts on Children-Participants will: • Understand the nexus between domestic violence and child maltreatment • Be able to identify signs or behavior that may result from a child witnessing violence in the home • Understand the impact of domestic violence on child development • Learn how to support families impacted by domestic violence October 25: Domestic Violence and Legal Considerations for the Immigrant Community- Participants will: •Learn about legal considerations, especially for the immigrant community (Working with DV Immigrant Survivors) • Learn how to effectively respond to domestic violence among immigrant survivors. • Learn about barriers related to reporting, cultural considerations, and how immigration status is used as a weapon to control • Be provided with options to share with immigrant survivors (legal remedies and victim rights)
